How we collect your information

Champion This Project! collects information in multiple ways, including:

  • When users provide information directly to us (when setting up an account)
  • When we passively collect information from you (such as from your browser)
  • From third parties (such as Champion This Project’s payment processor)

In order for you to create an account on Champion This Project! and use our Services, we need to collect and process certain information. Depending on your use of the Services, that may include:

  • Information a Project Creator provides for identity verification purposes when launching a project, including your name, email address, business location, at least one verified social media account, website URL (optional), social media URLs (optional) and shipping address (optional). In some cases, our payment processor will request that you provide them with a secure upload of an identity document (such as your passport, drivers license or other government-issued ID).
  • Information a Patron provides for account setup includes your name, email address, business location (optional), website URL (optional), social media URLs (optional) and shipping address.
  • Details of any requests or transactions you make through the Services. Champion This Project partners with other companies (such as Stripe) for payment processing, and the payment information you submit is collected and used by them in accordance with their privacy policies (read Stripe’s privacy policy).
  • Information about your activity on and interaction with Champion This Project! (such as your IP address, the type of device or browser you use, and your actions on the Site).
  • Information about the ways people visit and interact with our Site, in the form of traffic analytics. This may include StatCounter, Google Analytics, Google Maps, and Meta Pixel.
  • Your communications to Champion This Project! (for example, when you ask for support, send us questions or comments, or report a problem).
  • Information that you submit on or to Champion This Project! platform, such as comments, contributions to discussions, and project text & images.

You may decline to provide us with your information. However, this will limit your ability to register for an account or use our Services. You may review, change or remove your information through your account settings.

How we use your information

Publicly-Shared Information

Users may use online pseudonyms while on the site. However, they may opt to use their real names publicly.

Communications you send to us may be publicly-shared (eg: support questions, comments, or technical problem reports may be reposted in FAQ sections, etc).

Information that remains private

The following data will not be publicly displayed or revealed to other users:

    • Any payment information you provide
    • Your password details
    • Your device information, including your IP address

  • Private profile information
  • Most communications you send to us (ie: support questions, questions or comments, or reporting problems)

Project Creators are asked to verify their identities before launching a project, usually through possession of a verified social media account.

Information shared with third-parties

We may share some of your required information with our payment processors.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Information shared with Project Creators & collaborators

Project Creators are bound by this Privacy Policy and shall not sell or share any personal information except for fulfillment purposes.

Any Project Creator that chooses to add a collaborator to a project must only do so in a way that complies with the data sharing practices set forth below. Regardless of whether the collaborator is one person or a fulfillment company, collaborators are prohibited from using backer information provided to them by creators for any purposes other than direct fulfillment, such as shipping of rewards. Champion This Project! reserves the right to take disciplinary action(s), including suspension or account cancellation, for any creator who is found to be in violation of the requirements set out in this Policy.

Information shared between Patrons, Champion This Project!, and Project Creators

When a Patron donates to a campaign, both Champion This Project! and the Project Creator will receive information about the Patron, including email, full address, project name and project reward, as well as the date and time that the donation was made. Neither Champion This Project! nor the Project Creator receive any Patron credit card information from the Site.

However, limited information with regard to Patrons’ credit cards is available to both Champion This Project! and the Project Creator through our payment processor accounts. Such information includes your credit card type (Mastercard, Visa, etc),  the last four digits of your card, expiry date and issuer. (More information about the device used during the donation is possible should either Champion This Project! or the Project Creator opt-in to a paid anti-fraud program.)

Information shared between Patrons and Project Creators

Depending upon the nature of the reward, Project Creators may send you a survey requesting information needed to provide your reward. (For instance, they may need your t-shirt size.) Any information you provide in such surveys will be received by the Project Creator.

Project Creators are required to keep patron information confidential, except as strictly necessary to communicate with patrons directly and fulfill rewards. Project Creators should not ask for personal information that isn’t necessary to provide your reward, and should never request sensitive personal information that is not necessary to fulfill your reward such as your Social Security number or payment information. Contact us if you receive a request for information that seems inappropriate or excessive.

Collaborators are third parties that Project Creators can appoint to help manage their project. These collaborators may be able to access the information available to Project Creators (including Patrons’ names, email addresses, addresses, pledge amounts, reward selections, messages, and survey responses), and are required to treat backers’ personal information with the same care and respect as Project Creators are.

Project Creators and their collaborators may also receive routine traffic analytics about their project pages.

Information shared to protect Champion This Project! or comply with the law

We reserve the right to disclose personal information when we believe that doing so is reasonably necessary to comply with the law or law enforcement, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect Champion This Project’s legal rights, property, or the safety of Champion This Project!, its employees, users, or others.
