Champion This Project! is a website which crowdfunds for independent creators of graphic novels and comic books. However, we will consider crowdfunding for other types of projects on a case-by-case basis.
Because Champion This Project! is such a new crowdfunding website, we need to soberly inform Project Creators about its limitations.
The Site currently has zero registered Patrons, which means it currently has no internal backers for projects. Project Creators are responsible for driving all Patrons to the Site.
Therefore, Project Creators should not attempt to launch million-dollar crowdfunding campaigns on the Site. Without a large number of prospective internal backers, such campaigns are unlikely to succeed.
So, who should use Champion This Project?
Small Independent Creators
Creators with modest funding goals should be able to meet those goals provided they have a moderately-sized social media following which they can drive to the Site.
Larger Independent Creators
Larger independent Project Creators with limited-run side-projects will hopefully find the Site useful as well. Crowdfund a hat, a poster, a t-shirt, a mug — items of that nature.
We also invite larger creators who are concerned about arbitrary project cancellations and shadowbanning at the Big Two crowdfunding platforms. To those we say: By all means, run a large campaign at one of the Big Two. Raise as much as you can there.
But a couple weeks into your campaign, when momentum slows, consider opening a small campaign here. Surely, you must have heard from at least some Patrons who’ve sworn never to use Kickstarter. Why not let them donate to your campaign on an alternate site?
The same goes for those Patrons disillusioned by the shadowbanning shenanigans that occurred at Indiegogo last year.
Give those Patrons an option.
Goal Limits at Champion This Project!
Since the Site just entering beta testing, we ask that Project Creators limit their funding goals to the $1 to $500 range.
Once the Site demonstrates that it can smoothly handle modest levels of crowdfunding, our limit on crowdfunding goals will naturally be raised.
Champion This Project! shall start out charging 0% on all crowdfunded funds. (Though of course, Stripe will still charge its own fees).
Please bear in mind that there’s at least one circumstance in which we’ll have to raise our rate, but we shall try to keep our fee at or near 0% until the Site raises $100,000 for our Project Creators.
